The neighborhood of Lavapiés was historically the proletarian neighborhood of Madrid, even long before the first factories appeared in late 18th century with a first wave of the Industrial Revolution. It played, therefore, a very relevant part in the social, economic and political history of working classes in Madrid, but also in the development of a distinct popular culture, that became an inspiration for composers, artists and writers: Barbieri, Picasso, Baroja, Hemingway, Barea,…

Lavapiés streets and institutions (from churches to shops) tell the history of those who can’t write their own history. That’s why it’s one of the most inusual, original tours we can offer you.

If you wish a private guided tour of Madrid’s neighborhood of Lavapiés, fill the form and we will contact you. We recommend one hour and a half.
