Madrid Original ®’s approach for guided visits to the Royal Palace is different from the classical “the-palace-has-2800-rooms”. Instead, our guided tours explain why a specific architecture and decoration were chosen for the main residence of Spanish kings.
We will learn how history, politics and the character of kings inspired works of art and determined their formal aspect.
The political symbolisms of its architecture would be disclosed within the frame of the historical context. You will learn a lot about Spanish history, but even more about the way history shapes art.
The lavishly decorated state rooms and the works of art contained in them will become meaningful when old Spanish court protocol is evoked. Juvarra, Sachetti, Giaquinto, Tiepolo, Mengs and Goya will be seen as faithful interpreters of their kings propaganda.
And the Royal Armoury will be understood as Madrid’s first historical museum, since it was already instituted as such by Philip II.
